Victoria the Traction Engine

Victoria is a very shiny green traction engine with three brass bands around her boiler and gleaming brass chimney top.

There are different types of traction engines, and Victoria is a “General Purpose Agricultural Traction Engine”, which means she works on the farms, and enjoys pulling loads on her trailer too.

Like her friend, Albert, she can use a long belt around her flywheel to power different machines. As her flywheel spins the belt moves a wheel on the connected machine to make it work.

Victoria has one big cylinder that the steam from her boiler goes into and pushes her piston backwards and forwards, this turns her flywheel. Because she has only one cylinder, when she’s working hard she makes a lovely deep CHUFFING sound.

Like most Agricultural Traction Engines, Victoria has a spoked flywheel, and no roof or canopy over the footplate where the driver and steersperson stand.

Victoria’s favourite thing to do

Victoria loves working hard, keeping busy and especially helping all her friends!
